Dr Ying Cheong

Dr Ying Cheong qualified in medicine from Trinity College, Dublin, in 1996 and went on to complete an MD at the University of Sheffield and membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in 2003. She holds CCST and dual subspecialist accreditation in Reproductive Medicine, gained her Fellowship of the RCOG (FRCOG) in 2015, and holds a postgraduate certification in Health Care Management from Birkbeck College, London.

Since 2008, Dr Cheong has worked as a Consultant Gynaecologist and Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery at Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton. In 2010, she co-founded Complete Fertility Southampton, a service that began within the NHS, and led its clinical direction as it grew. Following the centre's acquisition by Virtus Health in 2018, she took on the role of Medical Director and Responsible Officer, a position she held until 2024, overseeing the addition of regional satellite clinics and a move to a purpose-built site. She chairs the clinical governance board, the recurrent miscarriage expert hub, and the regional multidisciplinary surgical reproductive medicine team.

Alongside her clinical work, Dr Cheong is a Professor in Reproductive Medicine at the University of Southampton, where she has taught and supervised trainees since 2008. Her research centres on the endometrium and related conditions, including endometriosis, pelvic pain and adhesions, and she has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and delivered over 100 invited lectures internationally. She sits on the editorial boards of Scientific Reports (Nature), Human Fertility and Reproduction and Fertility, chairs the ESHRE Special Interest Group in Reproductive Endocrinology, and has advised bodies including the MHRA, the RCOG and the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.
